SO how are you faring, Sautter family?

We are neck-deep in lockdown and with little sign yet of any glimmer of light at the end of a very dark, very dangerous tunnel.

Hopefully, you’ve been able to take advantage of our weekly post outs. Many of you have taken the chance to restock the humidor to keep yourselves sane during this most strange of enforced internments.

And many more of you all over the country and beyond took up the opportunity to join us in an amazing round the world virtual hello when Laurence Davis and Nick Hammond started in Instagram Live show from their respective homes over the Easter weekend.

Smoking a Corona against Coronaa Montecristo No.4, to be exact, which are still on special offer, although not for much longer – they were joined by a host of friends, customers, fellow cigar lovers and general all-round good eggs from across the world. It was really quite humbling to see folks joining us from Shanghai, Melbourne, Los Angeles, across Europe, New Zealand and many more places and the team chatted cigars, weather, boredom and simple camaraderie on a beautiful Spring day in the UK.

When Nick stepped aside to make room for other live guests, even Stephen Baldwin, the actor and producer from the US dropped in to say hi, bizarrely apparently cooking pork chops for breakfast!

“When we set this up, it was more to keep ourselves occupied,” said Sautter owner, Laurence Davis. “But the response has been fantastic. It shouldn’t come as any great surprise; cigar people are amazing.”

Favourite sticks and favourite places to smoke them were among the myriad topics up for discussion, with varied guests invited on to take part via video link from around the world.

So successful was the trial run that the boys are going to do it all again this Friday afternoon. Get in touch, get yourself a smoke and find somewhere comfortable for an hour or so of good, old fashioned chat between friends. Check out the Sautter Instagram account for more details.

In other news, Nick has himself provided some useful lockdown material for us; Around The World In 80 Cigars – The Podcast is now available through Podbean, Apple podcasts or straight from Nick’s site at www.nick-hammond.com A treasure trove of people and places and run as a compliment to his book of the same name, the lockdown has given him the time and inclination to record some chats with his friends and acquaintances in and around cigar scene and beyond. While he has the time, Nick has pledged to put out a pod a week, and the first two episodes are now available to air – free of charge – from your chosen provider. The first features an intriguing chat with Jimmy McGhee of Hunters & Frankau fame, and the second, an audio discussion with non-other than the maestro himself, Mr Davis. Check it out.

Stay safe and happy smokes to you all.
